Capability Maturity Model Integration for Development (CMMI-DEV)

CMMI-DEV provides a collection of industry and government best practices to guide the work of a product development organization. It distills years of experience into a model for success and has become a requirement for many organizations, especially those working with Government customers. The current version is CMMI-DEV v1.3

The best practices are organized into 22 process areas in 4 categories. CMMI uses the term maturity level to rate or score an organizations evolution and performance in implementing and adhering to the model. This description is commonly used as a requirement in contracts to identify companies with acceptible performance. Maturity Levels range from 1 to 5 with Maturity Level 3 rapidly becoming a basic requirement for Government work.
